The Sillustani Chullpas are located 34 kilometers from Puno city, near the Umayo Lagoon, at 4000 meters (13123 feet) above sea level. This incredible lagoon, which has a depth of roughly 14 meters, is connected to the Chaullamayo and Ccaccapunco rivers, and interacts with Lake Titicaca via the Illpa river.
The Sillustani Chullpas were built by the Colla people, an aymara speaking civilization that preceded the Inca Empire. The towers of Sillustani are one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in Peru. These curious stone towers gather the attention of thousands of visitors each day.
According to most historians, the Sillustani Chullpas served as a burial site for pre Incan civilizations. Just the elite class could be buried there, such as monarchs, high priests, nobles, and their families. At 2:00 p.m., we will pick you up from your hotel in Puno. Then, we will go in our private transportation to the archeological complex of Sillustani. After arrival, you will have a guided tour of the place. You will learn about the history of the Chullpas and its cultural significance for the pre-Inca and Inca civilizations. Then, we will proceed to visit the shores of Lake Umayo, which is located nearby Sillustani.
After the tour, we will return to Puno city, where we will be arriving around 5:30 pm.
