During the Short Inca Trail 2 Days you will explore the famed route to Machu Picchu citadel, while trekking through the beautiful Andean valleys. This version of the Inca Trail is designed for those who want to experience the Inca Trail but have a very tight travel schedule.
The Inca Trail is an ancient road that connects Machu Picchu with the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The Inca Trail used to be part of a larger Inca road network known as the Qhapaq Ñan. The Qhapaq Ñan connected most of the territories of the Inca Empire. Its construction began under the reign of Inca Pachacutec.
Most sections of the Qhapaq Ñan gradually disappeared during the colonial period of Peru. This happened due to the lack of maintenance. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and the Qeswachaka bridge are the best preserved sections of the Qhapaq Ñan.
The Inca trail to Machu Picchu usually takes 3 days to complete. It starts at the train station located at Km 82 and ends at the Inti Punku, a stone structure that marks the entrance to Machu Picchu citadel.
However, during the Short Inca Trail, you will be hiking the last section of the Inca Trail in less than a day. This section starts at the train station located at km 104 and also ends at Inti Punku. The Short Inca Trail is perfect for family trips because it does not require camping during the trek. The second day of the tour experience consists of a guided visit to Machu Picchu citadel.
