A tour to Laguna Humantay Peru is something that cannot be skipped during your vacation in Peru. Humantay Lagoon is a hidden gem located at 4,200 meters above sea level (13779 feet). It is situated near the Salkantay Mountain range in Cusco.
Humantay Lake stands out because of its vivid blue and green colors. The fastest way to reach Humantay lake is by taking a car trip from Cusco city to Mollepata town, followed by a 1.5 hours hike to the lagoon.
The road to Humantay Lake is surrounded by the beautiful Andean landscapes. This short trek is perfect for nature lovers. Also, Laguna Humantay is visited by local Andean priests known as shamans. They come to the lagoon to build small altar stones, known as “apachetas”.
Humantay Lagoon used to be visited as part of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, a trek of 5 days. However, nowadays it is possible to explore the natural beauty of Humantay in just one day.
This day tour is a high altitude trek. In order to avoid suffering from altitude sickness, we recommend spending some days in Cusco city. By doing this, you will help your body to acclimate to the Andean environment.
At Sanvil Turismo we offer the best travel packages in the region of Cusco. Our tour guides are professionals authorized by the local government to guide treks and tours in the region. They are experts in the history and traditions of each destination you will be visiting.
We also offer guided tours to the Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca, the Sacred Valley, the Inca Trail, and Choquequirao. The latter is an Inca citadel located near the famous Vilcabamba mountain range. Explore the marvels of Peru with us.
Your hotel in Cusco city

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 am. Then, we will go to Mollepata town in our private vehicle. We will be driving through the sinuous roads of the Andes mountains. We will stop in Mollepata to have breakfast. Then, we will continue driving to Soraypampa.
Soraypampa is the starting point of the trail to Humantay Lake. The trek has an approximately length of 2 km (1.24 miles), and it takes around 1.5 hours to complete. Humantay Lake is one of the most visited places in Cusco. Its unique turquoise waters create the perfect background for taking photographs.
The Humantay Lagoon is located between the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. These snow capped peaks are considered Andean deities, or “Apus”, by the local populations.
Once we arrive at Humantay, you will have free time to appreciate the incredible natural scenery of the place. You will also spot the numerous altar stones, or apachetas, built near the shores of the lagoon. Our tour guide will also explain to you the history and cultural importance of Humantay Lake.
