Our 2 day tour Machu Picchu will take you to one of the most beautiful archeological sites in Cusco. The famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu receives thousands of visitors each day. Nowadays it is considered one of the new seven wonders of the world.
The Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is located 80 km (49.7 miles) from Cusco city. According to some estimates, Machu Picchu was built in the XV century, under the rule of Inca Pachacutec. Machu Picchu is often considered as the “lost Inca city”, due to its relatively recent rediscovery at the beginning of the XX century.
Machu Picchu comprises several Inca monuments, which display the traditional Inca building techniques. The citadel is divided into three main sectors. The first one is known as the agricultural sector. This area is named after its numerous stone terraces, some of which were used by the Incas to grow crops. However, there are some terraces that were built with the sole purpose of supporting the weight of the rest of the citadel.
The urban sector of Machu Picchu comprises the most famous buildings of the archeological site. These include the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of the Three Windows, among others. This area is divided into two subsectors: Hurin, or low sector, and Hanan, or high sector.
The quarry sector comprises several rustic buildings that served as the residences for the servants and guardians of Machu Picchu. Furthermore, this area contains some unfinished building materials such as stone blocks.
Visiting Machu Picchu is an activity that cannot be skipped during your vacation in Peru. It is highly recommended to go to Machu Picchu with an authorized tour operator. By doing this, you will have a safer and more comfortable travel experience.
