Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain is an often overlooked tourist attraction in Cusco. Palccoyo is less known than Vinicunca, however it has a similar look. Indeed, going to Palccoyo is easier than visiting Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain.
Going to Palccoyo takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour. In contrast, trekking to Vinicunca takes around 2 hours. Also, the road to Vinicunca can become overcrowded around midday, while the path to Palccoyo has on average less visitors.
Our tour to Palccoyo starts in Checacupe town, which is reached after a short cart trip from Cusco. Once in Checacupe, the trek to Palccoyo starts. After a short trek of around 1 hour, you will reach the top of this multicolored mountain. The road to Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain in Peru offers stunning views of the Andes, including a nearby stone forest.
It is highly recommended to spend some days in Cusco city, before taking the full day tour to the alternative rainbow mountain Palccoyo. By doing this you will help your body to acclimate to the Andean environment, thus avoiding suffering from altitude sickness.
Also, we recommend visiting Palccoyo during the dry season, between April and October. During this season, the trail to Palccoyo is easier and safer to walk on, due to the lack of rain and mist.

Your Hotel in Cusco City
7:00 am
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am. Then, we will go in our private vehicle to Checacupe town. Once there, we will stop to have breakfast. After having breakfast, our adventure to Palccoyo rainbow mountain will start.
We will drive from Checacupe to the nearby trailhead to Palccoyo. Afterwards, we will walk for around 1 hour through the beautiful valleys of the Andes. Along the way, we will appreciate the natural beauty of the region. On a clear day, you will be able to see some snow capped peaks in the distance, including the imposing Ausangate mountain.
Once we reach Palccoyo, you will have free time to admire the surroundings of this magnificent place. Then, we will hike back to the trailhead, where we will board our private vehicle to Checacupe. We will stop in Checacupe to have a traditional Andean lunch.
Finally, we will drive back to Cusco city, where we will be arriving around 5:30 pm.
