Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu 2 Days Tour

0
Overview

Our 2 day tour Machu Picchu Sacred Valley takes you to the most famous places of the Cusco region. In the span of just two days, you will be visiting the enchanting Inca ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, followed by the famed Machu Picchu citadel.

The Sacred Valley was first occupied by the Inca civilization between the X and XIV centuries. This valley played an important role during the development of the Inca Empire. Due to its warm climate, most of the crops that feed the Inca population were grown there.

Due to its agricultural nature, the Incas build numerous stone terraces along the Sacred Valley. These structures can be found in almost all the Inca ruins of the Sacred Valley. For example, the archeological site of Pisac alone has around 40 terraces.

The Sacred Valley also played an important role during the Spanish conquest of Peru. The ruins of Ollantaytambo were the battleground where Spanish and Inca armies clashed in 1537. Even though the Incas managed to obtain the victory, they were forced to retreat to the Vilcabamba region under the leadership of Manco Inca.

This 2-day tour is perfect for those who have limited time to explore the marvels of Cusco. On the first day, you will explore the Inca ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, and then take a train to Aguas Calientes town. On the second day, you will have a guided tour of the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu. Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas with us.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Sacred Valley of the Incas - Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am. Then, we will drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to the Inca ruins of Pisac. Pisac is located at 3300 meters (10826 feet) above sea level. This Inca site was built under the government of Inca Pachacutec, in the XV century.

Pisac was a residence for the royal Inca family. It also housed some temples and even an astronomical observatory. The main buildings of Pisac are the Acchapata terraces, the Pucaras watch towers; and the Inca neighborhoods of Intiwatana, Tianayuc, K’alla Q’asa, Pisaq’a, and Qanchis Raq’ay.

After our guided tour of Pisac, we will go to Urubamba town. We will stop there to have a buffet lunch.

Then, we will drive to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo. This place also was a royal Inca state and a temple. During the Spanish conquest of Peru, Ollantaytambo served as an improvised Inca stronghold.

Finally, we will board a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes town. Once in Aguas Calientes, our staff will transfer you to your hotel room. Then, you will have free time to explore this enchanting town and its famed hot springs.

Day 2Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

After having breakfast, you will board a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. The bus trip takes around 30 minutes to complete. Then, after passing the security checkpoints, you will enter the famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Once inside Machu Picchu, our guided tour will begin. You will visit the Temple of the Condor, the Main Temple, the Intihuatana, among other Inca buildings. If you have a ticket to Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain, our staff will guide you to the respective entrance. After the tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes by bus.

Once in Aguas Calientes, you will have time to have lunch at a local restaurant. The lunch is not included in the tour price.
